A large portion of Southwest Louisiana was impacted severely by Hurricane Laura in August of 2020. Immediately following the disaster, Louisiana State Representative Rhonda Butler approached the Acosta Foundation to offer her help for some of the affected residents in areas that weren't being assisted by other agencies. Acosta Foundation, Representative Butler and Anita Fontenot with The Hatchery in Vidrine, Louisiana began working quickly to pool finances and resources in order to assist the residents in Hineston, LA. On May 19, 2020, The Acosta Foundation with Evangeline Chamber of Commerce continued its COVID relief efforts by delivering food and supplies to residents in Mamou, Ville Platte and Turkey Creek. The Acosta Foundation would also like to thank the United Way of St. Landry/Evangeline for the grant funding to assist with this project.
On October 29, members of the Evangeline Parish community came together to help one of our neighbors, Phillip Cavins, owner of Prairie Culture Farms in Pine Prairie. Phillip's farm was heavily damaged by recent hurricanes. Members of the Acosta Foundation were happy to team up with other community members to begin the process of rebuilding the greenhouses.
